NIGHTSIDE FORECAST: WREG-TV WEATHER OVERTIME for TUE PM 9.19.17

WREG Meteorologist Austen Onek takes an in-depth look at the forecast for Tuesday evening. Hurricane Maria strength is up to a Category 5 and heading for Puerto Rico. Fortunately, it looks like it is starting to avoid the United States. (Here’s hoping it stays that way.) Also: the hot and humid weather will be sticking around for the rest of summer (which ends on Friday… the season, not the hot weather). All that and a lot more on tonight’s update of #WREG @3onyourside #weatherblog #WeatherOvertime. #ShareAndEnjoy

NIGHTWATCH FORECAST: WREG-TV WEATHER OVERTIME for MON PM 8.7.17

WREG Meteorologist Austen Onek takes an in-depth look at the forecast for Monday evening, August 7, 2017. In tonight’s edition: a look at area burn bans and wildfire danger (none to speak of, thankfully), a look at radar for local showers and thunderstorms (a few) and a peek into the next several (warm, humid, and cloudy) days. Also: weather for the upcoming solar eclipse is coming into focus, slowly, and things are not looking entirely great for visibility here. Also: another garbage patch floating around the Pacific is not good news for planetary health. All coming up in the latest edition of #WREG @3onyourside exclusive video weatherblog #WeatherOvertime. #ShareAndEnjoy

CQ CQ CQ — TODAY IS FIELD DAY 2017!

Print

ARRL Field Day is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US
and Canada. On the fourth weekend of June of each year, more than 35,000 radio
amateurs gather with their clubs, groups or simply with friends to operate from
remote locations.

Field Day is a picnic, a campout, practice for emergencies, an informal contest and,
most of all, FUN!

It is a time where many aspects of Amateur Radio come together to highlight our
many roles. While some will treat it as a contest, other groups use the opportunity to practice their emergency response capabilities. It is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Amateur Radio to the organizations that Amateur Radio might serve in an emergency, as well as the general public. For many clubs, ARRL Field Day is one of the highlights of their annual calendar. The contest part is simply to contact as many other stations as possible and to learn to operate our radio gear in abnormal situations and less than optimal conditions.

We use these same skills when we help with events such as marathons and bike-a-thons; fund-raisers such as walka-thons; celebrations such as parades; and exhibits at fairs, malls and museums — these are all large, preplanned, non-emergency activities.

Follow Field Day on Facebook and Twitter! ARRL has created a Field Day event on Facebook, and you can also join the conversation by using the hash tag #ARRLFD. Share your plans, tips and tricks to a successful Field Day!
