Plus: more ways you can #BeReady for disasters by volunteering for Skywarn in the Mid-South! All coming up on today’s early edition of #WREG @3onyourside exclusive video #weatherblog #WeatherOvertime. #ShareAndEnjoy

COFFEE & A FORECAST: WREG-TV WEATHER OVERTIME for SAT AM 9.23.17

WREG Meteorologist Austen Onek takes an in-depth look at the forecast for the First Weekend of Autumn (even though it feels VERY much like summer than anything fall-related). Coming up today: a very warm weekend ahead, there is NO planet named Nibiru that will be crashing into Earth today, and the tropics are still active, yet quieter than what they were a few days ago. All that and a lot more on #WREG @3onyourside exclusive video weatherblog #WeatherOvertime! #ShareAndEnjoy

“A Failure To Communicate” by James Spann

https://medium.com/@spann/a-failure-to-communicate-b3005808ee#.ku33op8c3

“We must rethink our use of maps, the way we write forecasts and discussions, and the overall techniques of communicating weather. I don’t have the answers now, but I know we must change.

Add to the mix the problem of local and national media outlets coming up with their own watches, warnings, and severe weather indices, and this whole thing could really go down the tubes in a hurry. We can’t even agree on “call to action” statements during tornado warnings. One TV person says “you must be underground” to survive, another one says “drive south”, and another one says “get into a small room on the lowest floor of your home”.”

#BEPREPARED: Memphis International Needs YOU!

14089173_1787295531485310_6839720230367354672_n

If you’ve never participated in one of these, you should consider giving it a try. I was in a mock plane crash at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas for my Boy Scouts of America Emergency Preparedness merit badge. Received fake wounds and had fake blood applied to my clothing and was transported in an ambulance to the VA Hospital for triage & examination.

If you’d like to volunteer, in order to help our community and authorities be better prepared for an emergency, please consider doing so, and contact the Memphis International Airport staff to sign up.
